[FESTIVAL]JIFF – ON THE ROAD, KHAOSAN TANGO (RECENSIONE) | ITA – ENG

Che cosa succede se si è uno sceneggiatore in cerca di ispirazione tra le strade di Bangkok? Jiha vuole diventare un regista di film e sta raccogliendo informazioni riguardo una storia misteriosa diffusa tra i viaggiatori che si recano in Tailandia. Decide quindi di intervistare la gente che incontra durante il suo cammino per poi sviluppare la sua sceneggiatura. Nella calda capitale tailandese arriva a questo ostello dove sente parlare coreano, proprio nella strada Khaosan. Qui fa la conoscenza di Hayeong, un’altra ragazza coreana, che si occupa dell’ostello, e cerca di conoscerla meglio. Jiha, si nota immediatamente, è un pesce fuor d’acqua, ma solo dopo aver superato i propri problemi riuscirà a comprendere anche la protagonista. Fondamentale è il processo di guarigione interna a ogni personaggio. Questo è un tipo di viaggio particolare, è un viaggio nella memoria, nei ricordi di un passato che si vorrebbe, forse, dimenticare. Tuttavia è grazie a questo passato che i protagonisti si muovono e agiscono creando il proprio futuro.

Nel film è presente anche un altro viaggio, più concreto, quello attraverso Bangkok, le sue strade affollate, il fiume, gli edifici tipici e anche la bellezza e unicità del Songkran, il tradizionale festival dell’acqua tailandese, danno un tocco di autenticità a On the Road, Khaosan Tango, riuscendo a trasportare lo spettatore in questa terra a noi lontana ed esotica. Molto realistica la scena del Songkran, dove si vedono i vari personaggi divertirsi e mescolarsi con la popolazione locale, concentrati nello spruzzarsi e bagnarsi con le pistole ad acqua e, semplicemente, a passare un bel momento tutti insieme. Infatti, come ha detto il regista, in questa scena gli attori si stavano proprio divertendo, godendosi appieno una festività che rientra in un contesto tradizionale e sacro per i tailandesi.

On the Road, Khaosan Tango by Kim Beomsam (Korea, 2018)

What if you are a screenwriter looking for inspiration on the streets of Bangkok? Jiha wants to become a film director and he is collecting information about a mysterious story that is widespread among travelers visiting Thailand. He then decided to interview the people he met during his journey in order to develop his screenplay. In the warm Thai capital he comes to this hostel where he hears people speaking Korean, right in the Khaosan road. Here he meets Hayeong, another Korean girl, who takes care of the hostel, and tries to get to know her better. Jiha, as it is easy noticeable, is a fish out of water, but only after overcoming his problems he will be able to understand even the female protagonist. The healing process inside each character is fundamental. This is a kind of special journey, it is a journey into memory, memories of a past that one would perhaps want to forget. However, it is thanks to this past that the protagonists move and act creating their own future.

In the film there is also another journey, more concrete, the one through Bangkok, its crowded streets, the river, the typical buildings and also the beauty and uniqueness of the Songkran, the traditional Thai water festival, give a touch of authenticity to On the Road, Khaosan Tango, managing to transport the viewer to this distant and exotic land. The scene of the Songkran is very realistic, where you can see the various characters having fun and mingling with the local population, concentrating on spraying and getting wet with water pistols and simply spending a pleasant moment together. In fact, as the director said, in this scene the actors were really enjoying their time, enjoying a festivity that falls within a traditional and sacred context for the Thai people.
